VIDEO: Insane Crash At Vuelta a Burgos!

Horrendous crash on a speed bump brought down most of the bunch in the final km on stage 2 of the Vuelta Burgos. Riders suffered dislocated elbows, broken bones and concussion in worst pile-up this season

The second stage at Vuelta Burgos was marred by a horrendous crash when one of the Jumbo Visma riders bounced of a speed hump and came down heavily near the front of speeding bunch heading into a sprint finish.

In the final kilometre of the 158km stage to Villadiego, team Jumbo Visma were in a full lead-out formation trying to set up sprinter David Dekker for stage victory.

The first two Jumbo Visma riders riders managed to negotiate the speed bump, but the third rider Jumbo Visma Dekker was not expecting it and went over the handle bars and hit the deck really hard, which went above his head at one point.

The riders were traveling so fast and were so tightly packed, the fallen Jumbo Visma saw most of the bunch behind crash, which spread across the road with a huge number wiped out. Some of the riders hit and went through the crowd control barriers at the roadside for the final km.

Three incredibly lucky Jumbo Visma riders including the two at the front, managed to escape the pile up and they went on to take a 1-2-3 win, Tim Roosen winning ahead of teammates Edoardo Affini and Chris Harper.

Davide Ballerini (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) fell hard as he hit Dekker. He suffered a haematoma to his right gluteus, as well multiple abrasions.

Jannik Steimle (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) broke his right collarbone as he couldn't escape the chaos of the crash.

Ballerini's fall caused AG2R Citroën rider Damien Touzé to be thrown over the barriers and into the spectators who went to hospital for treatment.

Damien Touzé Touzé suffered a head trauma and concussion. His teammate Clément Berthet was also involved in the crash, fracturing a finger which needed an operation.

Bora-Hansgrohe pair Wilco Keldermann and Jai Hindley both fell during the crash to come away only with scrapes and bruises.

David Gonzalez (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) dislocating his elbow and teammate Orluis Aular suffered a scaphoid fracture.

Incredibly, Roosen, Affini and Harper didn't know about the crash behind and was blasted on social media for celebrating!

Affini wrote "Before everyone starts writing bulls**t on here, I want to make it clear: I was doing a full lead-out effort. I have seen a teammate passing me with 200m to go and I celebrated, yes. I really didn't have idea of the huge carnage behind us!"

"I feel very sorry and sad for everyone involved and I hope no one is badly injured. Dear UCI, after all that happened already, to allow a finish with a speed bump so high in the last 800m coming from a super high speed section is a disgrace. Unacceptable."
