2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Preview
The Surf Coast will host the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, bringing the world’s top amateur road cyclists to the Great Ocean Road for a four-day festival of racing alongside Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo. this October 16 - 19, 2025
The Surf Coast will play host to the world’s best amateur road cyclists when one of the sport’s biggest international calendars comes to the Great Ocean Road. The 2025 races coincide with Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo and will tackle the same course through the Otway Ranges and along the Great Ocean Road. Lorne will host a major event hub and the start/finish line of a road race and time trial during the weekend, while a team relay event will take place at the Geelong Waterfront.
The UCI Gran Fondo is the culmination of a world series incorporating 27 global qualifying events leading to invites for the top competitors to compete for medals and the coveted rainbow world champion’s jersey.

Thursday 16 October (Great Ocean Rd: Lorne to Eastern View)
- 9.30 am - Time Trial (23km)
Friday 17 October (Geelong Only)
- 6.00 pm - Team Relay (1.9km Circuit)
Sunday 19 October (Surf Coast Shire & Colac Otway Shire)
- 7.15 am - UCI Gran Fondo World Championship (131km)
- 9.00 am - Amy's Gran Fondo Recreation Ride (122km)
- 9.30 am - Family Fondo (3km lapping course)
- 12.00 pm - Medio Fondo (45km)
Time Trial Course
The 23km Time Trial will start and finish in Lorne and and features some of the most spectacular sections of Victoria's most visited tourist attraction, the Great Ocean Road.
The out-and-back course turns at the iconic Memorial Arch at Eastern View and is complete with a mix of challenging climbs, rolling hills and scenic coastal views making it a challenging yet rewarding course as you go head to head against the clock.
Gran Fondo Course
Set along the breathtaking Great Ocean Road, the Gran Fondo challenges riders with 131 km / 81 miles of racing and nearly 1,900m / 6,300ft of climbing. There's 7 miles of climbing from the gun to the top of Benwerrin in the Otway Mountains and Mount Sabine after 37 miles which includes gradients of up to 12%.
