Team Breakaway is excited to announce the inclusion of the 2024 Oregon Trail Gravel Race to next year’s Gravel Earth Series. Oregon Trail Gravel (OTG) will join longstanding events, The Rift in Iceland, Migration Race in Africa, and the Traka in Spain as part of this four-race series.
“We are thrilled with this opportunity,” says owner and race director Chad Sperry. “When Klassmark Events (owners of the Gravel Earth Series and the Traka) reached out with the official invitation to be a part of the Gravel Earth Series, joining these other amazing gravel events, we jumped at the chance. It is an honor to have been selected as the North American event to be included in next year’s race series,” said Sperry.
“We feel strongly that our core values of focusing on the environment, spirit of adventure, and amazing experiences for every single rider, aligns well with all the values of this series,”. OTG, like the other events, takes place in areas that truly showcase some of the most stunning and dramatic landscapes on the planet. Each race has a completely different look and feel. For OTG it is about showcasing the snowcapped volcanoes and tectonic landscapes that created the mighty Cascade Mountain Range along with the diversity of riding through alpine terrain, high desert terrain, and even old growth forest with dense vegetation over the course of 5 days. We feel these dramatic landscapes and our ethos fit well with the other events in the series,” says Sperry.
Oregon Trail is the only gravel event in North America that is a point-to-point race/ride format allowing organizers to maximize the routes they choose for challenge and incredible scenery. Utilizing old logging roads and even a couple historic wagon roads, the Oregon Trail takes riders over the Cascade Mountain Range through the lush Willamette Valley and the high desert climates of Central Oregon. Based out of Bend, Oregon next year’s all-inclusive event will cover 350 miles and 35,000 feet of elevation over 5 days. In addition to the breathtaking courses OTG provides full support for all of its riders so that for 5 days they can enjoy simply focusing on eating, sleeping, and riding.
Known as the “Bike Summer Camp for Adults,” OTG creates a very fun camp vibe which truly makes this race unique.
The 2024 Oregon Trail Gravel Race starts later, June 26th - 30th, 2024, and is the undisputed “Grand Tour of Gravel” in the world. It’s for racers AND adventure riders who want to test their limits and push personal boundaries.This is an all-inclusive Bike Vacation!
Your adventure will start and finish in the outdoor mecca of Bend, Oregon and will pass through 365 miles of Oregon’s most scenic and breathtaking gravel roads, with fully-supported fireside campouts and entertainment to rest and refuel each night.
Riders have the option to pick the following categories:
- Pioneer ~ 350 miles, 30K climbing
- Settler ~250 miles, 15K climbing
- Iron Horse- E-bike category doing the Settler distance
- Tag Team- Tackle the Pioneer distance with one of your best friends and alternate days of riding and relaxing

NEW for 2024, there is less elevation and smoother/faster courses next year allowing for more competitive racing and more energy to enjoy camp each night! Breakaway Promotions are also excited to be back at Camp Gilchrist next year! In addition, they are going to introduce a couple of new zones further south to showcase brand-new regions that have not been explored. There will be major upgrades to the snack shack to keep everyone happy!
This five-day event starting in Bend will challenge and reward racers and adventure riders not only on the epic days in the saddle, but also every night back at camp. Each stage has two distances, one for Settlers and Pioneers.
