The event, which has become a rite of passage for cyclists since its inception in 1973, saw Boswell and Gardner rise to the occasion, etching their names in the annals of cycling history.

Ian Boswell, a 34-year-old former WorldTour professional turned gravel racer, conquered the grueling 7.6-mile ascent to the summit of Mount Washington, reaching an elevation of 6,288 feet above sea level in a blistering time of 50 minutes and 15 seconds. This remarkable feat not only secured him first place but also eclipsed Phil Gaimon’s previous record set in 2022 by an impressive 23 seconds.

“I came into this race with a focus on the climb and the challenge it presents,” said Boswell. “Breaking the record is just the icing on the cake. The atmosphere and the support from the crowd were incredible, making this a truly unforgettable experience.”

Following Boswell was Peter Stetina, 38, who claimed second place with a time of 51:36, showcasing his own prowess on the unforgiving terrain. Ultra-endurance athlete Jack Kuenzle, 30, secured third place with a commendable time of 54:16, while USA Gran Fondo National Champion Andrew Knight, 48, rounded out the top four with a time of 55:45.

On the women’s side, 26-year-old Illi Gardner, the reigning British National Hill Climb Champion, made waves by not only winning the women’s category but also setting a new record of 58:01. Gardner’s time obliterated Courtney Nelson's previous record by an astounding 11 minutes, marking a significant milestone in women’s cycling.

“I was focused on my pacing and just tried to keep pushing myself,” Gardner said. “To break the record by such a large margin is surreal. This climb is legendary, and I’m thrilled to be a part of its history.”

Lydia MacKenzie finished in second place for the women with a time of 1:14:43, followed by Aimee Vasse, who completed the climb in 1:18:42.
