Lars Van Coppenolle and Emily Proud fastest in the Gran Fondo in Scotland as results come in.

2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Results

Competitors have praised the roads, breakfasts and even the weather they have experienced in Perthshire.
 
Edgar Oviodo travelled more than 5,000 miles from Costa Rica to take part in the event. He said: “We decided to be part in this because it would be a good experience – it’s the first time we’ve done this sort of event. I’ve come with my cycling group and I’m so excited to be here. It’s the first time I’ve been to Scotland and we’re really wanting to see the places here and the culture. “Perth is very nice. I’d recommend anyone come here if they can, it’s a very very beautiful place. The weather, the people and the atmosphere here for the event is amazing and I’ve enjoyed the trip so far.”
 
Davy Adriaensen travelled from Antwerp in Belgium for the race – he is a top 20 rider in the event. Davy Adriaensen, 45, Antwerp Belgium. Perth. Kieran Webster/DC Thomson The 45-year-old said: “I qualified as part of the Gran Fondo select in Luxembourg so that’s why I’m here. “I’ve cycled the route – it’s great and has good roads. Perth is a nice city. We’ve also been to Glasgow and Oxford, the whole country is very nice. It’s the first time being in Scotland and England and it’s left a good impression.”
 
Cyclists Alexandre Doyon, 41 and Sebastien Dasgagne, travelled across the Atlantic to take part in the Gran Fondo. The pair are from Quebec, Canada and said: “The place has been great. We rode some of the circuit yesterday, but not too much – got to save it for tomorrow.”

2023 UCI Gran Fondo Championships Results

The 159km Granfondo with all categories starts split with 5 minutes intervals. The 1,927m of elevation was  mainly in the middle section through the Scottish Highlands with three 5-7km climbs before coming back to Perth on flatter roads. 1,878 riders registered for the road races amongst which UCI president David Lappartient, but also former pro riders as Jeannie Longo (defending world champion in both time trial and road racing in her category), Mario Cipollini and Alexander Vinokurov. The 68 different nationalities at the start makes this the most international UCI Gran Fondo World Championships ever.
 
In the Granfondo Lars Van Coppenolle from Belgian (19-34) was fastest ahead Matteo Cigala and Matthia Studer who finished joint 14 seconds behind. In the women's race Emiliy Proud of Great Britain was fastest ahead of Marine Lenehan and Wies De Jong.

2023 UCI Medio Fondo Championships Results

The 87km Medio Fondo course started first for all women over 50 and men over 60 with 807m of elevation and finish in Scone Palace, just outside Perth.
 
Overall Jørn FJELDAVLIE was fastest in a time of 2h 14m 57 just ahead of Rob PEARS and Mike TWELVES. In the women's race, Amy PHILLIPS was fastest ahead of Jutta STIENEN and Michela GORINI both 1 second behind.
