Tour of Flanders Sportive Sell Outs 16,000 Places

The organisers of the Flanders cyclosportive have announced that registrations are officially closed ahead of Saturday April 1st

Saturday 1 April 2017 will see cyclists from 56 different countries take to roads of Flanders to cover different routes the day before the professionals race the Tour of Flanders.

This year entrants had four different options to choose from with the 141-kilometre and 74-kilometre routes departing from Oudenaarde and the 200-kilometre and 237-kilometre options departing from Antwerp.

All four routes provide riders with the experience of riding the steep climbs and cobbled sections which the race is renowned for.

Riders climbs the legendary cobbled climbs, the Koppenberg, Molenberg, Taaienberg, Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg.

Riders who take on the full 237 kilometre challenge will tackle the Muur van Geraardsbergen which makes its return to the Tour of Flanders route this year.

The legendary Wall of Geraardsbergen is set to make its return to the Tour of Flanders next season after an absence of five years

The steep cobbled section often formed part of the finale of the 'Ronde van Vlaanderen' in the past but was removed from the route in 2012 as the race's finish moved from Meerbeke to Oudenaarde.

While Oudenaarde continues to be the arrival town, the organization has found another way to include 'De Muur' by making it the eighth of 18 climbs. As such, it won't be likely to make much of a difference to the final results although it may become an indicator of things to come.

The 2017 edition of the Flemish monument starts in the city of Antwerpen rather than Brugge. The first climb, the Oude Kwaremont, will be reached after 115 kilometers of cycling.

The finale of the race won't be adjusted in comparison to last year. The Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont and the Paterberg will once again challenge the riders near the end of the 159.9km route.
